No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,

“ My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen.

If someone says,“ I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

Moses responded,“ Then show me your glorious presence.”The Lord replied,“ I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.”The Lord continued,“ Look, stand near me on this rock.As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen.”

“ My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

And the Lord spoke to you from the heart of the fire. You heard the sound of his words but didn’t see his form; there was only a voice.

I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the Lord as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?”

Jesus replied,“ Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?

And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

Pay close attention to him, and obey his instructions. Do not rebel against him, for he is my representative, and he will not forgive your rebellion.

All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.

I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”

It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple.Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew.They were calling out to each other,“ Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!”

Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said,“ You are the God who sees me.” She also said,“ Have I truly seen the One who sees me?”

Then the Lord came down in a cloud and stood there with him; and he called out his own name, Yahweh.The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out,“ Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”

When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush,“ Moses! Moses!”“ Here I am!” Moses replied.“ Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned.“ Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.I am the God of your father— the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.

“ I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him.“ From now on you will be called Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have won.”“ Please tell me your name,” Jacob said.“ Why do you want to know my name?” the man replied. Then he blessed Jacob there.Jacob named the place Peniel( which means“ face of God”), for he said,“ I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.”

He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.

The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said,“ Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”“ Sir,” Gideon replied,“ if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say,‘ The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.”Then the Lord turned to him and said,“ Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!”“ But Lord,” Gideon replied,“ how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”The Lord said to him,“ I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”Gideon replied,“ If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the Lord speaking to me.Don’t go away until I come back and bring my offering to you.” He answered,“ I will stay here until you return.”Gideon hurried home. He cooked a young goat, and with a basket of flour he baked some bread without yeast. Then, carrying the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, he brought them out and presented them to the angel, who was under the great tree.The angel of God said to him,“ Place the meat and the unleavened bread on this rock, and pour the broth over it.” And Gideon did as he was told.Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and bread with the tip of the staff in his hand, and fire flamed up from the rock and consumed all he had brought. And the angel of the Lord disappeared.When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he cried out,“ Oh, Sovereign Lord, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!”“ It is all right,” the Lord replied.“ Do not be afraid. You will not die.”And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh Shalom( which means“ the Lord is peace”). The altar remains in Ophrah in the land of the clan of Abiezer to this day.That night the Lord said to Gideon,“ Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one that is seven years old. Pull down your father’s altar to Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole standing beside it.Then build an altar to the Lord your God here on this hilltop sanctuary, laying the stones carefully. Sacrifice the bull as a burnt offering on the altar, using as fuel the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down.”

Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah’s glory.

When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded,“ Are you friend or foe?”“ Neither one,” he replied.“ I am the commander of the Lord’s army.” At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence.“ I am at your command,” Joshua said.“ What do you want your servant to do?”The commander of the Lord’s army replied,“ Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go out or in.But the Lord said to Joshua,“ I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors.

Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my grandfather Abraham and my father, Isaac, walked— the God who has been my shepherd all my life, to this very day,the Angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may he bless these boys. May they preserve my name and the names of Abraham and Isaac. And may their descendants multiply greatly throughout the earth.”

Above this surface was something that looked like a throne made of blue lapis lazuli. And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man.From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor.All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me.

“ Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet. The rich man also died and was buried,and he went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.

As the flames from the altar shot up toward the sky, the angel of the Lord ascended in the fire. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell with their faces to the ground.The angel did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. Manoah finally realized it was the angel of the Lord,and he said to his wife,“ We will certainly die, for we have seen God!”But his wife said,“ If the Lord were going to kill us, he wouldn’t have accepted our burnt offering and grain offering. He wouldn’t have appeared to us and told us this wonderful thing and done these miracles.”

When the Lord had finished his conversation with Abraham, he went on his way, and Abraham returned to his tent.

They cry out to their mothers,“ We need food and drink!” Their lives ebb away in the streets like the life of a warrior wounded in battle. They gasp for life as they collapse in their mothers’ arms.

I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence.

Even in the womb, Jacob struggled with his brother; when he became a man, he even fought with God.Yes, he wrestled with the angel and won. He wept and pleaded for a blessing from him. There at Bethel he met God face to face, and God spoke to him—the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, the Lord is his name!

The disciple Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table.

“ For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.“ There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
