This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. (niv)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (niv)

This is what the Lord says— the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel— to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers:“ Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.” (niv)

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. (niv)

Simon Peter answered him,“ Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (niv)

Jesus said to her,“ I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (niv)

“ But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. (niv)

Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? (niv)

How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (niv)

For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (niv)

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:“ Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him. The Spirit and the bride say,“ Come!” And let the one who hears say,“ Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. (niv)

He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. (niv)
