耶稣知道群众要来强迫他作王，就独自又退到山上去了。到了晚上，他的门徒下到海边去。他们上了船，要渡海往迦百农去。那时天已经黑了，耶稣还没有到他们那里。忽然海上起了狂风，波浪翻腾。门徒摇橹约行了五六公里，看见耶稣在海面上行走，渐渐靠近船，就害怕起来。耶稣对他们说：“是我，不要怕。”他们这才把他接上船，船就立刻到了他们要去的地方。

事后耶稣立刻催门徒上船，叫他们先渡到对岸的伯赛大去，等他自己叫众人散开。他离开了他们，就上山去祷告。到了晚上，船在海中，耶稣独自在岸上，看见门徒辛辛苦苦地摇橹，因为风不顺。天快亮的时候（“天快亮的时候”原文作“夜里四更天”），耶稣在海面上向他们走去，想要赶过他们。门徒看见他在海面上走，以为是鬼怪，就喊叫起来；因为他们都看见了他，非常恐惧。耶稣立刻对他们说：“放心吧！是我，不要怕。”于是上了船，和他们在一起，风就平静了。门徒心里十分惊奇，因为他们还不明白分饼这件事的意义，他们的心还是迟钝。

耶稣的弟弟就对他说：“你应当离开这里上犹太去，好让你的门徒也可以看见你所行的事；因为没有人想引人注目，却在暗处行事的。你既然行这些事，就应该向世人显明自己。”

耶稣立刻催门徒上船，叫他们先到对岸去，他却留下来叫群众散开。他解散了群众，就独自上山去祷告。到了晚上，他还是独自一人在那里。那时门徒的船已经离岸数公里，因为逆风，被波浪冲击。天快亮的时候﹙“天快亮的时候”原文作“夜里四更天”。﹚，耶稣在海面上向他们走过去。门徒见他在海面上行走，就很惊慌，说：“有鬼啊！”并且恐惧得大叫起来。耶稣立刻对他们说：“放心吧！是我，不要怕。”彼得对他说：“主啊，如果是你，让我在水面上到你那里去。”他说：“来吧！”彼得就从船上下来，行在水面上，走向耶稣那里去。但他一见风浪就害怕，快要沉下去的时候，就呼叫：“主啊！救我！”耶稣马上伸手拉住他，对他说：“小信的人哪，为什么疑惑？”他们上了船，风就平静了。船上的人都拜他，说：“你真是神的儿子。”

前行后随的人都喊着说：“‘和散那’，奉主名来的是应当称颂的！

说：“奉主名来的王，是应当称颂的！在天上有和平，在至高之处有荣耀！”

第二天，有一大群上来过节的人，听见耶稣要来耶路撒冷，就拿着棕树枝出去迎接他，欢呼说：“和散那，奉主名来的以色列王，是应当称颂的！”耶稣找到一头小驴，就骑在上面，正如经上所记的：“锡安的居民哪，不要惧怕；看哪，你的王来了，他骑着小驴来了。”

耶稣上了山，同门徒坐在那里。

耶稣却不信任他们，因为他知道所有的人，也不需要谁指证人是怎样的，因为他知道人心里存的是什么。

被造的在神面前没有一样不是显明的，万有在他的眼前都是赤露敞开的；我们必须向他交帐。
