And he said to the human race,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.”

He said to human beings,“ Have respect for the Lord. That will prove you are wise. Avoid evil. That will show you have understanding.”

And he said to man,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”

And this is what he says to all humanity:‘ The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’”

He said to mankind,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom. And to turn from evil is understanding.”

And to mankind He said,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to turn away from evil is understanding.’ ”

Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.Such“ wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (niv)

Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription:“ The Lord knows those who are his,” and,“ Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” (niv)
