He wants to stop them from going down into the grave. He doesn’t want them to be killed by swords.

還是你藐視他豐富的恩慈、寬容、忍耐，不曉得他的恩慈是領你悔改呢？

他不信自己能從黑暗中轉回；他被刀劍等候。

神救贖我的靈魂免入深坑；我的生命也必見光。

主所應許的尚未成就，有人以為他是躭延，其實不是躭延，乃是寬容你們，不願有一人沉淪，乃願人人都悔改。

並且要以我主長久忍耐為得救的因由，就如我們所親愛的兄弟保羅，照着所賜給他的智慧寫了信給你們。

禁卒一醒，看見監門全開，以為囚犯已經逃走，就拔刀要自殺。保羅大聲呼叫說：「不要傷害自己！我們都在這裏。」禁卒叫人拿燈來，就跳進去，戰戰兢兢地俯伏在保羅、西拉面前；又領他們出來，說：「二位先生，我當怎樣行才可以得救？」他們說：「當信主耶穌，你和你一家都必得救。」他們就把主的道講給他和他全家的人聽。當夜，就在那時候，禁卒把他們帶去，洗他們的傷；他和屬乎他的人立時都受了洗。

神就給他開恩，說：救贖他免得下坑；我已經得了贖價。

為要從深坑救回人的靈魂，使他被光照耀，與活人一樣。

他的靈魂臨近深坑；他的生命近於滅命的。
