Look up into the sky, and see the clouds high above you.

試觀諸天、瞻視高於爾之穹蒼、

試觀乎天、蒼蒼在上、

試觀高天、瞻望在上之穹蒼、

Look up at the heavens and see; gaze at the clouds so high above you.

Look up at the heavens. Observe the clouds that are high above you.

“ God is so great— higher than the heavens, higher than the farthest stars.

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.

“ But will God really live on earth? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?

God is more glorious than the moon; he shines brighter than the stars.In comparison, people are maggots; we mortals are mere worms.”

God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them.He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing.

“ Look, God is greater than we can understand. His years cannot be counted.He draws up the water vapor and then distills it into rain.The rain pours down from the clouds, and everyone benefits.Who can understand the spreading of the clouds and the thunder that rolls forth from heaven?See how he spreads the lightning around him and how it lights up the depths of the sea.By these mighty acts he nourishes the people, giving them food in abundance.He fills his hands with lightning bolts and hurls each at its target.The thunder announces his presence; the storm announces his indignant anger.“ My heart pounds as I think of this. It trembles within me.Listen carefully to the thunder of God’s voice as it rolls from his mouth.It rolls across the heavens, and his lightning flashes in every direction.Then comes the roaring of the thunder— the tremendous voice of his majesty. He does not restrain it when he speaks.God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power.

So also, golden splendor comes from the mountain of God. He is clothed in dazzling splendor.We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty; but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us.

Do you understand how he moves the clouds with wonderful perfection and skill?

Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him,“ Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”
