“挑剔是非的，怎能與全能者爭辯呢？責備神的，回答這個問題吧。”

『好辯的哪可同全能者挑剔是非呢？譴責上帝的儘管回答呀。』

好駁折者、可與全能者爭論乎、與上帝辯者、尚其答之、

我全能之上帝也、爾昔欲與我辨、今何詞以對。

好辯者、欲與全能之主爭乎、與天主辯者、今可答之、

“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”

“ I am the Mighty One. Will the man who argues with me correct me? Let him who brings charges against me answer me!”

“ Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

“ Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?”

Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

“ Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct[ him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!”

“ Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

“ Why do you complain to Him That He does not give an account of all His doings?

With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge, And informed Him of the way of understanding?

Remove Your hand from me, And may the dread of You not terrify me.Then call and I will answer; Or let me speak, then reply to me.How many are my guilty deeds and sins? Make known to me my wrongdoing and my sin.Why do You hide Your face And consider me Your enemy?Will You scare away a scattered leaf? Or will You pursue the dry chaff?For You write bitter things against me And make me inherit the guilty deeds of my youth.You put my feet in the stocks And watch all my paths; You set a limit for the soles of my feet,

For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?Or who has first given to Him, that it would be paid back to him?For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

For He bruises me with a storm And multiplies my wounds without cause.He will not allow me to get my breath, But He saturates me with bitterness.

Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has shut off?

“ Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker— A piece of pottery among the other earthenware pottery pieces! Will the clay say to the potter,‘ What are you doing?’ Or the thing you are making say,‘ He has no hands’?Woe to him who says to a father,‘ What are you fathering?’ Or to a woman,‘ To what are you giving birth?’ ”This is what the Lord says, the Holy One of Israel and his Maker:“ Ask Me about the things to come concerning My sons, And you shall commit to Me the work of My hands.

If one wished to dispute with Him, He could not answer Him once in a thousand times.

“ What do you people mean by using this proverb about the land of Israel, saying,‘ The fathers eat sour grapes, But it is the children’s teeth that have become blunt’?

Know then that God has wronged me And has surrounded me with His net.“ Behold, I cry,‘ Violence!’ but I get no answer; I shout for help, but there is no justice.He has blocked my way so that I cannot pass, And He has put darkness on my paths.He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head.He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree.He has also kindled His anger against me And considered me as His enemy.

“ Why is light given to one burdened with grief, And life to the bitter of soul,

“ As God lives, who has taken away my right, And the Almighty, who has embittered my soul,

You will say to me then,“ Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?”On the contrary, who are you, you foolish person, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder,“ Why did you make me like this,” will it?Or does the potter not have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one object for honorable use, and another for common use?What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with great patience objects of wrath prepared for destruction?And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon objects of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory,

He who vindicates Me is near; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand up to each other. Who has a case against Me? Let him approach Me.

When they received it, they grumbled at the landowner,

Is it right for You indeed to oppress, To reject the work of Your hands, And to look favorably on the plan of the wicked?Do You have eyes of flesh? Or do You see as mankind sees?Are Your days like the days of a mortal, Or Your years like a man’s year,That You should search for my guilt And carefully seek my sin?According to Your knowledge I am indeed not guilty, Yet there is no one to save me from Your hand.

For now You number my steps, You do not observe my sin.My wrongdoing is sealed up in a bag, And You cover over my guilt.

Will You never turn Your gaze away from me, Nor leave me alone until I swallow my spittle?Have I sinned? What have I done to You, Watcher of mankind? Why have You made me Your target, So that I am a burden to myself?Why then do You not forgive my wrongdoing And take away my guilt? For now I will lie down in the dust; And You will search for me, but I will no longer exist.”

For He is not a man, as I am, that I may answer Him— That we may go to court together!There is no arbitrator between us, Who can place his hand upon us both.Let Him remove His rod from me, And let not the dread of Him terrify me.Then I would speak and not fear Him; But I am not like that in myself.

If I have sinned, You will take note of me, And will not acquit me of my guilt.If I am wicked, woe to me! But if I am righteous, I dare not lift up my head. I am full of shame, and conscious of my misery.And should my head be high, You would hunt me like a lion; And You would show Your power against me again.You renew Your witnesses against me And increase Your anger toward me; Hardship after hardship is with me.

“ Why did I not die at birth, Come out of the womb and pass away?Why were the knees there in front of me, And why the breasts, that I would nurse?

Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we?

You have become cruel to me; With the strength of Your hand You persecute me.

Am I the sea, or the sea monster, That You set a guard over me?

God hands me over to criminals, And tosses me into the hands of the wicked.I was at ease, but He shattered me, And He has grasped me by my neck and shaken me to pieces; He has also set me up as His target.His arrows surround me. He splits my kidneys open without mercy; He pours out my bile on the ground.He breaks through me with breach after breach; He runs at me like a warrior.I have sewed sackcloth over my skin, And thrust my horn in the dust.My face is flushed from weeping, And deep darkness is on my eyelids,Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.“ Earth, do not cover my blood, And may there be no resting place for my cry.Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And my advocate is on high.My friends are my scoffers; My eye weeps to God,That one might plead for a man with God As a son of man with his neighbor!

Whatever exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he cannot dispute with the one who is mightier than he is.
