I am oppressed and have been on the verge of death since my youth. I have been subjected to your horrors and am numb with pain.Your anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me.

If I sinned, then you would watch me and you would not acquit me of my iniquity.

“ You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain.

“ Truly, I know that this is so. But how can a human be just before God?

And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust, and you will seek me diligently, but I will be gone.”

For, when I think about this, I am terrified and my body feels a shudder.

“ Surely now you count my steps; then you would not mark my sin.

If you, O LORD, were to keep track of sins, O Lord, who could stand before you?

Although I am innocent, my mouth would condemn me; although I am blameless, it would declare me perverse.I am blameless. I do not know myself. I despise my life.

For the very thing I dreaded has happened to me, and what I feared has come upon me.
