And shouldn’t I show concern for the great city of Nineveh? It has more than 120,000 people. They can’t tell right from wrong. Nineveh also has a lot of animals.”

And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?”

But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?”

So may I not care about the great city of Nineveh, which has more than a hundred twenty thousand people who cannot distinguish between their right and their left, as well as many animals?”

Should I not also have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 people, who do not know the difference between their right hand and their left, as well as many animals?”

And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left— and much livestock?”

and should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Should I not care about the great city of Nineveh, which has more than 120,000 people who cannot distinguish between their right and their left, as well as many animals?”

And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and[ also] much cattle?

Should I not be even more concerned about Nineveh, this enormous city? There are more than one hundred twenty thousand people in it who do not know right from wrong, as well as many animals!”

Shouldn’t I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can’t discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?”

“ Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’

And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from bad— they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.

“ The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’“‘ My son,’ the father said,‘ you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry.

“ Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it.

All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:

The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.

“ Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.“ Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
