於是以色列眾人從但到別是巴，以及從基列地出來，如同一人，聚集在米斯巴耶和華那裏。以色列各支派中眾百姓的領袖，都站在上帝百姓的會中。拿刀的步兵共有四十萬。便雅憫人聽見以色列人上了米斯巴。以色列人說：「請說，這惡事是怎麼發生的呢？」那利未人，就是被害婦人的丈夫，回答說：「我和我的妾來到便雅憫的基比亞住宿。基比亞人夜間起來攻擊我，包圍我住的屋子。他們想要殺我，並把我的妾污辱致死。我把我的妾切成塊，分送到以色列得為業的全地，因為基比亞人在以色列中做了邪惡可恥的事。看哪，你們大家，以色列人哪，在此提出你們的建議和對策吧！」眾百姓都起來如同一人，說：「我們誰也不回自己的帳棚，誰也不回自己的家去！現在，我們要這樣對付基比亞，照所抽的籤去攻打他們。我們要在以色列各支派中，一百人選十人，一千人選一百人，一萬人選一千人，為那到便雅憫的迦巴去的士兵運糧；因為基比亞在以色列中行了可恥的事。」於是以色列眾人彼此聯合如同一人，聚集攻擊那城。

我為他們作證，他們對上帝有熱心，但不是按着真知識。
