他們把城中所有的，無論男女老少，牛羊和驢，都用刀殺盡。

善人給子孫遺留產業；罪人積財卻歸義人。

他們開始唱歌讚美的時候，耶和華派伏兵擊殺那來攻擊猶大的亞捫人、摩押人和西珥山人，他們就被打敗了。

當日，約書亞奪了瑪基大，用刀擊殺城中的人和王，把城中所有人完全滅盡，沒有留下一個倖存者。他處置瑪基大王，像從前處置耶利哥王一樣。

那時，你們就從埋伏的地方起來，奪取那城，因為耶和華－你們的神必把城交在你們的手裏。

你們要豎立大旗，攻擊巴比倫的城牆；要堅固瞭望臺，派定守望的設下埋伏；因為耶和華指着巴比倫居民所說的，他不但這樣定意，也已成就。

世人行動實係幻影，他們忙亂，真是枉然，積蓄財寶，不知將來有誰收取。

他選了約五千人，安排他們埋伏在伯特利和艾城的中間，就是艾城的西邊。

誠實人必多得福；想要急速發財的，難免受罰。

艾城的王看見了，就和城裏的人清早起來，急忙出去，他和所有的士兵到了所定的地點，在亞拉巴前，迎擊以色列，與之交戰；王並不知道城的後面有伏兵。

神卻對他說：『無知的人哪！今夜就要你的性命，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』凡為自己積財，在神面前卻不富足的，也是這樣。」

他雖積蓄銀子如塵沙，堆積衣服如泥土，他儘管堆積，義人卻要穿上，無辜的人卻要分取銀子。

耶羅波安卻在猶大人的後頭設伏兵。這樣，以色列人在猶大人的前頭，伏兵在猶大人的後頭。

耶路撒冷王亞多尼‧洗德聽見約書亞奪了艾城，徹底毀滅，處置艾城和艾城的王像處置耶利哥和耶利哥的王一樣，又聽見基遍的居民與以色列人立了和約，住在他們中間，

只是牲畜和城內所奪的財物，以色列人都照耶和華所吩咐約書亞的話，取為自己的掠物。約書亞焚燒艾城，使城成為永遠的廢墟，直到今日還是荒涼。他把艾城的王掛在樹上，直到晚上。日落的時候，約書亞吩咐人把屍首從樹上取下來，丟在城門口，並在屍首上堆了一大堆石頭，直存到今日。

他一伸手，伏兵立刻從埋伏的地方衝出來，直攻入城，奪了它，立刻放火燒城。

那不按正道得財富的，好像鷓鴣孵不是自己生的；到了中年，財富必離開他，終久他必成為愚頑人。

以色列在基比亞的四圍設下埋伏。第三日，以色列人又上去攻擊便雅憫人，在基比亞前擺陣，與前兩次一樣。便雅憫人也出來迎敵，就被引誘出城外。在田間的兩條路上，一條通往伯特利，一條通往基比亞，他們像前兩次一樣，動手殺了約三十個以色列人。便雅憫人說：「他們仍像以前一樣敗在我們面前。」但以色列人說：「讓我們逃跑，引誘他們離開城到路上來。」以色列眾人都起來，在巴力‧他瑪擺陣，以色列的伏兵從馬利‧迦巴埋伏的地方衝上前去。

耶和華對我說：『不要怕他！因我已把他和他的眾百姓，以及他的地，都交在你手中；你要待他像從前待住在希實本的亞摩利王西宏一樣。』

於是，約書亞派遣他們前去。他們行軍到埋伏的地方，伏在伯特利和艾城的中間，就是艾城的西邊。這夜，約書亞在士兵中間過夜。

以色列人在田間和曠野殺盡了追趕他們的艾城所有的居民。他們全倒在刀下，直到滅盡。以色列眾人就回到艾城，用刀殺了城中的人。
