錫安的城門必悲哀哭號，錫安被掠奪，成了一片荒涼後，必坐在地上。

他們從遠處舉目觀望，竟認不出他來，就放聲大哭，各自撕裂外袍，向天揚起塵土，落在自己頭上。他們就七天七夜與他一起坐在地上，沒有人向他說一句話，因為他們看出他極其痛苦。

他們在街上都腰束麻布；在房頂上，在廣場上，各人都哀號，流淚痛哭。

“到那日，聖殿的歌聲必變為哀號；屍首眾多，拋棄各處；你們要肅靜。”這是主耶和華的宣告。

從前人煙稠密的城中，現在怎麼竟然孤獨地坐在那裡。從前在列國中為大的，現在怎麼竟然像個寡婦。從前在眾省份中為王后的，現在怎麼竟然成了奴隸。

他要無言獨坐，因為這是耶和華加在他身上的。

他們必用麻布束腰，戰兢把他們遮蓋，各人的臉上滿是羞愧，各人的頭上都光禿。

通往錫安道路悲哀，因為沒有人去守節。錫安一切的城門冷落，祭司唉哼，處女憂傷，錫安也受盡痛苦。

巴比倫的處女啊！你下來，坐在塵土中吧！迦勒底的女兒啊！你坐在地上吧！沒有寶座了，因為你必不再被稱為柔弱嬌嫩的了。

約書亞就撕裂自己的衣服，和以色列人的長老，在耶和華的約櫃前，一同俯伏在地，直到晚上，也把塵土撒在頭上。

他瑪把塵土撒在自己的頭上，撕裂身上的長袖彩衣，又把一隻手放在頭上，一邊行走一邊哭叫。

那些從前吃美食的，現今都在街上孤單淒涼；那些從前在豪奢生活中長大的，現今卻在垃圾堆中打滾。

我們為甚麼坐著不動呢？你們要集合起來，我們要進入堅固的城裡去，在那裡滅亡吧！因為耶和華我們的神要我們滅亡，又把毒水給我們喝，因我們得罪了耶和華。

於是希勒家的兒子管家以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和亞薩的兒子史官約亞，都撕裂衣服，來到希西家面前，把拉伯沙基的話告訴了他。

眾長老不再坐在城門口；青年人不再唱歌作樂。

你們要哀號，像少女腰束麻布，為她幼年時許配的丈夫哀號一樣。

“到那日，美麗的少女和青年男子都因乾渴昏倒。

耶和華親臨（“耶和華親臨”直譯作“耶和華的面”）分散他們，不再看顧他們；人不再尊重祭司，也不厚待長老。

他們必因你把頭剃光，腰束麻布，為你痛心哭泣，苦苦悲哀。

為此，聰明人在這時代緘默無聲，因這時代邪惡。

眾領袖被敵人吊起來；長老也不受人尊敬。

“迦勒底的女子啊！你要靜靜坐下，進到黑暗中去，因為人不再稱你為列國之后了。

他們又把塵土撒在自己頭上，痛哭悲哀，喊著說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城啊！凡是有船航行海上的，都因這城的財寶發了財；一時之間她竟成了荒場！’
