The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her palaces into the hands of the enemy; they have raised a shout in the house of the Lord as on the day of an appointed festival.

The Lord deserted his altar. He left his temple. He gave the walls of Jerusalem’s palaces into the hands of her enemies. They shouted loudly in the house of the Lord. You would have thought it was the day of an appointed feast.

The Lord has scorned his altar, disowned his sanctuary; he has delivered into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they raised a clamor in the house of the Lord as on the day of festival.

The Lord has rejected his own altar; he despises his own sanctuary. He has given Jerusalem’s palaces to her enemies. They shout in the Lord’s Temple as though it were a day of celebration.

The Lord has rejected his altar, repudiated his sanctuary; he has handed the walls of her palaces over to the enemy. They have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed festival.

Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs.They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees.They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets.They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.They said in their hearts,“ We will crush them completely!” They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land. When God heard them, he was furious; he rejected Israel completely.He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he had set up among humans.He sent the ark of his might into captivity, his splendor into the hands of the enemy. (niv)

Say to the people of Israel,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary— the stronghold in which you take pride, the delight of your eyes, the object of your affection. The sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword. (niv)

They took pride in their beautiful jewelry and used it to make their detestable idols. They made it into vile images; therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.I will give their wealth as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile it.I will turn my face away from the people, and robbers will desecrate the place I treasure. How the Lord has covered Daughter Zion with the cloud of his anger! He has hurled down the splendor of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger. (niv)

I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated. (niv)

‘ Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the swordin the fight with the Babylonians:‘ They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness. (niv)
