有好些犹太人来看马大和马利亚，要为她们弟弟的缘故安慰她们。马大听见耶稣来了，就出去迎接他；马利亚却仍然坐在家里。

有一个患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是马利亚和她姐姐马大的村庄。这马利亚就是那用香膏抹主，又用头发擦他脚的；患病的拉撒路是她的弟弟。姊妹两个就打发人去见耶稣，说：“主啊，你所爱的人病了。”耶稣听见后却说：“这病不至于死，而是为了神的荣耀，为要使神的儿子藉此得荣耀。”耶稣素来爱马大和她妹妹，以及拉撒路。

逾越节前六天，耶稣来到伯大尼，就是他使拉撒路从死人中复活的地方。有人在那里为耶稣预备宴席；马大伺候，拉撒路也在同耶稣坐席的人中间。马利亚拿着一斤极贵的纯哪哒香膏，抹耶稣的脚，又用自己头发去擦，屋里充满了膏的香气。

还有曾被邪灵所附，被疾病所缠，而已经治好的几个妇女，其中有称为抹大拉的马利亚，曾有七个鬼从她身上赶出来，又有希律的管家苦撒的妻子约亚拿，和苏撒拿以及好些别的妇女，她们都是用自己的财物供给耶稣和使徒。

她和她一家都领了洗，就求我们说：“你们若以为我是真心信主的，请到我家里来住。”于是她坚决请我们留下。
