耶穌對他們講一個比喻，論到人應當堅持禱告，不可喪志。他說：『某城裏有一個審判官不敬畏上帝，也不尊敬人。那城裏有個寡婦，常去見他說，「從告我的對頭身上給我伸冤吧。」他多時不肯；後來心裏說，「我雖不敬畏上帝，也不尊敬人，只因這寡婦直攪擾我，我就要給她伸冤，免得她終日不斷地來纏磨我。」』主說：『你們聽這不義的審判官所說的。上帝揀選的人晝夜向他喊救，他縱然在他們的事上延持着，難道總不給他們伸冤麼？我告訴你們，他總要快快地給他們伸冤的。然而人子來的時候，難道得見信心在地上麼？』

那人說：『天快亮了，讓我走吧。』雅各說：『你不給我祝福，我就不讓你走。』

弟兄們，我憑着我們的主耶穌基督、又憑着聖靈所感動的愛、勸你們在替我向上帝禱告的事上、和我一同奮鬥、

忽有一個迦南婦人從那境內出來，嚷着說：『主啊，大衛的子孫哪，可憐我；我女兒被鬼附得很苦呢。』耶穌一句話也不回答她。門徒上前來，求耶穌說：『請打發她走吧，因為她在我們後頭喊叫呢。』耶穌回答說：『我奉差遣，不過是去找以色列家迷失的羊罷了。』那婦人卻來拜他說：『主啊，援助我。』他回答說：『拿兒女的餅丟給小狗，很不好啊。』婦人說：『主啊，不錯；但是連小狗也喫牠們主人桌子上掉下來的碎渣兒啊！』於是耶穌回答她說：『婦人，你的信心好大呀！照你所願的給你作成吧。』從那一刻、她女兒就得了醫治。

你們那裏的人、基督耶穌的僕人以巴弗、給你們問安；他在禱告中時常為你們奮鬥，要叫你們站穩、做長大成熟的人，在上帝的一切旨意上有着堅確的信念。

為了這事、我曾三次求過主、叫這刺痛離開我。

我願意你們知道、我為你們和那些在老底嘉的、跟所有在肉身上沒有見過我面的人、是有多麼大的奮鬥；
