耶穌曰、當竭力爭進窄門、我告爾、將有多人、求進而不得進、

曰『爾等當勉入窄門。予實語爾、欲入而不得入者、眾矣。

“ Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

“ Try very hard to enter through the narrow door. I tell you, many will try to enter and will not be able to.

“ Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail.

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.

“ Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.

For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the judgment of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God.‘ Why have we fasted, and you see it not? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?’ Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers.Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high.

But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.”

The toil of a fool wearies him, for he does not know the way to the city.

Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof,I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you,when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.

And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for with lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

So he said to them again,“ I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”

For John had been saying to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.

For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.

When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.

but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law.Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,as it is written,“ Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.Then he said,“ Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.

A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain, but knowledge is easy for a man of understanding.

Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you,‘ Where I am going you cannot come.’
