孩子啊，你要稱為至高者的先知；因為你要走在主的前面，為他預備道路，叫他的百姓因罪得赦，認識救恩；因我們神憐憫的心腸，叫清晨的日光從高天臨到我們，要照亮坐在黑暗中死蔭裏的人，把我們的腳引到和平的路上。』」

這人來是為了作見證，是為那光作見證，要使眾人藉着他而信。

在曠野有聲音呼喊着：預備主的道，修直他的路。」

他要使許多以色列人回轉，歸於主－他們的神。他將有以利亞的精神和能力，走在主的前面，叫父親的心轉向兒女，叫悖逆的人轉向義人的智慧，又為主預備迎接他的百姓。」

這人就是以賽亞先知所說的：「在曠野有聲音呼喊着：預備主的道，修直他的路。」

他必使父親的心轉向兒女，兒女的心轉向父親，免得我來詛咒這地。」

耶和華說：「你們要修築，修築，要預備道路，除掉我百姓路中的絆腳石。」

你們當從門經過，經過，預備百姓的路。你們要修築，修築大道，清除石頭，為萬民豎立大旗。
