Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were under the tyranny of the Devil, because God was with Him.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil.After He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, He was hungry.Then the tempter approached Him and said,“ If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”But He answered,“ It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”Then the Devil took Him to the holy city, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,and said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”Jesus told him,“ It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.”Again, the Devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.And he said to Him,“ I will give You all these things if You will fall down and worship me.”Then Jesus told him,“ Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him.”Then the Devil left Him, and immediately angels came and began to serve Him.

The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,

Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.He was in the wilderness 40 days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels began to serve Him.

Then Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread throughout the entire vicinity.

The Spirit of the Lord God is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;

but he went on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree and prayed that he might die. He said,“ I have had enough! Lord, take my life, for I’m no better than my fathers.”

Guided by the Spirit, he entered the temple complex. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for Him what was customary under the law,

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him— a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.His delight will be in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what He sees with His eyes, He will not execute justice by what He hears with His ears,but He will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with discipline from His mouth, and He will kill the wicked with a command from His lips.

For God sent Him, and He speaks God’s words, since He gives the Spirit without measure.

So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I left in bitterness and in an angry spirit, and the Lord’s hand was on me powerfully.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any longer. But he went on his way rejoicing.

After Jesus was baptized, He went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on Him.

When all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. As He was praying, heaven opened,and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: You are My beloved Son. I take delight in You!

He went into all the vicinity of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,

until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.

And John testified,“ I watched the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He rested on Him.

But when I leave you, the Spirit of the Lord may carry you off to some place I don’t know. Then when I go report to Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the Lord from my youth.
