喊叫：“各位以色列人哪，请帮忙！这个人就是那到处教导大家反对我们的民族、律法，反对这地方的！他甚至把希腊人带进圣殿，玷污了这圣地。”原来他们曾经看见以弗所人特罗费摩与保罗一起在城里，就以为保罗带他进了圣殿。于是全城的人都被煽动了，民众一起跑来，抓住保罗，把他拖出圣殿，殿门立刻关上了。在他们想杀保罗的时候，有消息上报到军团的千夫长，说全耶路撒冷都混乱了。千夫长立即带着士兵和几个百夫长跑下去，到了他们那里。他们一看见千夫长和士兵们，就停止殴打保罗。

如果我没有在他们当中做别人从未做过的事，他们就没有罪；但如今他们虽然看到了，还是恨我和我的父。不过这是为要应验他们律法上所记载的话：‘他们无缘无故地恨我。’

我知道你们是亚伯拉罕的后裔。可是你们想要杀我，因为你们里面容不下我的话语。

恶人已经拔出刀剑，拉开了弓，要使困苦人和贫穷人倒下，要杀戮行为正直的人。

所以耶稣为了藉着自己的血使子民分别为圣，也在城门外受难。

于是他们大声喊叫，捂着耳朵，一齐向他冲过去，把他拉到城外，用石头砸他。那些见证人把自己的外衣放在一个称为扫罗的年轻人脚前。

打了很多棍以后，把他们投进监狱，吩咐狱卒好好地看守。狱卒领了这样的吩咐，就把他们投进了监狱里的最里层，把他们的两脚铐在木枷上。
