喊叫：「各位以色列人哪，請幫忙！這個人就是那到處教導大家反對我們的民族、律法，反對這地方的！他甚至把希臘人帶進聖殿，玷汙了這聖地。」原來他們曾經看見以弗所人特羅費摩與保羅一起在城裡，就以為保羅帶他進了聖殿。於是全城的人都被煽動了，民眾一起跑來，抓住保羅，把他拖出聖殿，殿門立刻關上了。在他們想殺保羅的時候，有消息上報到軍團的千夫長，說全耶路撒冷都混亂了。千夫長立即帶著士兵和幾個百夫長跑下去，到了他們那裡。他們一看見千夫長和士兵們，就停止毆打保羅。

如果我沒有在他們當中做別人從未做過的事，他們就沒有罪；但如今他們雖然看到了，還是恨我和我的父。不過這是為要應驗他們律法上所記載的話：『他們無緣無故地恨我。』

我知道你們是亞伯拉罕的後裔。可是你們想要殺我，因為你們裡面容不下我的話語。

惡人已經拔出刀劍，拉開了弓，要使困苦人和貧窮人倒下，要殺戮行為正直的人。

所以耶穌為了藉著自己的血使子民分別為聖，也在城門外受難。

於是他們大聲喊叫，摀著耳朵，一齊向他衝過去，把他拉到城外，用石頭砸他。那些見證人把自己的外衣放在一個稱為掃羅的年輕人腳前。

打了很多棍以後，把他們投進監獄，吩咐獄卒好好地看守。獄卒領了這樣的吩咐，就把他們投進了監獄裡的最裡層，把他們的兩腳銬在木枷上。
