若輩又問曰：『如望門徒頻齋久禱、法利塞人亦然、惟爾門徒亦飲亦食何也？』

They said to him,“ John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”

Some of the people who were there said to Jesus,“ John’s disciples often pray and go without eating. So do the disciples of the Pharisees. But yours go on eating and drinking.”

And they said to him,“ The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.”

One day some people said to Jesus,“ John the Baptist’s disciples fast and pray regularly, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees. Why are your disciples always eating and drinking?”

Then they said to him,“ John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink.”

And they said to Him,“ The disciples of John often fast and offer prayers, the disciples of the Pharisees also do the same, but Yours eat and drink.”

Then they said to Him,“ Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees, but Yours eat and drink?”

And they said unto him, The disciples of John fast often, and make supplications; likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink.

Then they said to Him,“ John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but Yours eat and drink.”

And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise[ the disciples] of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

Then they said to him,“ John’s disciples frequently fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours continue to eat and drink.”

They said to him,“ Why do John’s disciples often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?”

我每週禁食兩次，凡我所得的都獻上十分之一。』

那時，約翰的門徒和法利賽人都禁食。他們來問耶穌說：「約翰的門徒和法利賽人的門徒禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食，這是為甚麼呢？」耶穌對他們說：「新郎和賓客在一起的時候，賓客怎麼能禁食呢？只要新郎和他們在一起，他們不能禁食。但日子將到，新郎要被帶走，那日他們就要禁食了。「沒有人把新布縫在舊衣服上，若是這樣，所補上的新布會撕破舊衣服，裂口就更大了。也沒有人把新酒裝在舊皮袋裏，若是這樣，酒會脹破皮袋，酒和皮袋都糟蹋了。相反地，新酒要裝在新皮袋裏。」

那時，約翰的門徒來見耶穌，說：「我們和法利賽人常常禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食，這是為甚麼呢？」耶穌對他們說：「新郎和賓客在一起的時候，賓客怎麼能哀慟呢？但日子將到，新郎要被帶走，那時候他們就要禁食了。沒有人把新布補在舊衣服上；因為所補上的會撕破那衣服，裂口就更大了。也沒有人把新酒裝在舊皮袋裏，若是這樣，皮袋會脹破，酒就漏出來，皮袋也糟蹋了。相反地，把新酒裝在新皮袋裏，兩樣就都保全了。」

耶穌在一個地方禱告。禱告完了，有個門徒對他說：「主啊，求你教導我們禱告，像約翰教導他的門徒一樣。」

約翰的門徒和一個猶太人辯論潔淨的禮儀，

又過了一天，約翰同兩個門徒站在那裏。

你們舉手禱告，我必遮眼不看，就算你們多多祈禱，我也不聽；你們的手沾滿了血。

「我們禁食，你為何不看呢？我們刻苦己心，你為何不理會呢？」看哪，你們禁食的時候仍追求私利，剝削為你們做苦工的人。看哪，你們禁食，卻起紛爭興訟，以兇惡的拳頭打人。你們今日這種禁食無法使你們的聲音聽聞於高處。這豈是我所要的禁食，為人所用以刻苦己心的日子嗎？我難道只是叫人如蘆葦般低頭，鋪上麻布和灰燼嗎？你能稱此為禁食，為耶和華所悅納的日子嗎？我所要的禁食，豈不是要你鬆開兇惡的繩，解開軛上的索，使被欺壓的得自由，折斷一切的軛嗎？

人子來，也吃也喝，你們又說這人貪食好酒，是稅吏和罪人的朋友。而智慧是由所有智慧的人來證實的。」

轉耳不聽教誨的，他的祈禱也可憎。

你們吃喝，不是為自己吃，為自己喝嗎？

主對他說：「起來！往那叫直街的路去，在猶大的家裏，去找一個大數人，名叫掃羅；他正在禱告，

「你們這假冒為善的文士和法利賽人有禍了！因為你們當着人的面把天國的門關了，自己不進去，要進去的人，你們也不容他們進去。

我為他們作證，他們對上帝有熱心，但不是按着真知識。因為不明白上帝的義，想要立自己的義，他們就不服上帝的義了。

「你們禱告的時候，不可像那假冒為善的人，愛站在會堂裏和十字路口禱告，故意讓人看見。我實在告訴你們，他們已經得了他們的賞賜。你禱告的時候，要進入內室，關上門，向那在隱祕中的父禱告；你父在隱祕中察看，必將賞賜你。
