For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say,‘ He has a demon.’

That is how it has been with John the Baptist. When he came to you, he didn’t eat bread or drink wine. And you say,‘ He has a demon.’

“ You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink.”For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says:“ Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.It will happen, when you tell this people all these words, and they ask you,‘ Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great evil against us?’ or‘ What is our iniquity? or‘ What is our sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God?’

Others, mocking, said,“ They are filled with new wine.”

Then the Jews answered him,“ Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”

Many of them said,“ He has a demon, and is insane! Why do you listen to him?”

Then the Jews said to him,“ Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say,‘ If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’

Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!
