Edom may say,“ Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.” But this is what the Lord Almighty says:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord.

Edom might say,“ We have been crushed. But we’ll rebuild our cities.” The Lord who rules over all says,“ They might rebuild their cities. But I will destroy them. They will be called the Evil Land. My anger will always remain on them.

If Edom says,“ We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says,“ They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called‘ the wicked country,’ and‘ the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”

Esau’s descendants in Edom may say,“ We have been shattered, but we will rebuild the ruins.” But the Lord of Heaven’s Armies replies,“ They may try to rebuild, but I will demolish them again. Their country will be known as‘ The Land of Wickedness,’ and their people will be called‘ The People with Whom the Lord Is Forever Angry.’

Though Edom says,“ We have been devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” the LORD of Armies says this:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called a wicked country and the people the LORD has cursed forever.

Though Edom says,“ We have been beaten down, but we will return and build up the ruins”; this is what the Lord of armies says:“ They may build, but I will tear down; and people will call them the territory of wickedness, and the people with whom the Lord is indignant forever.”

Even though Edom has said,“ We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.

Whereas Edom saith, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places; thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and men shall call them The border of wickedness, and The people against whom Jehovah hath indignation for ever.

I will make you desolate forever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord. (niv)

I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom in accordance with my anger and my wrath; they will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign Lord.’” (niv)

All the people will know it— Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria— who say with pride and arrogance of heart,“ The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.” (niv)

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. (niv)

but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.” (niv)

Go to Kalneh and look at it; go from there to great Hamath, and then go down to Gath in Philistia. Are they better off than your two kingdoms? Is their land larger than yours? (niv)

“ Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. (niv)

His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed? (niv)

What he tears down cannot be rebuilt; those he imprisons cannot be released. (niv)

Rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked.Your punishment will end, Daughter Zion; he will not prolong your exile. But he will punish your sin, Daughter Edom, and expose your wickedness. (niv)

You will fall by the sword, and I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord. (niv)

Now listen, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.Instead, you ought to say,“ If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. (niv)

Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it? (niv)

It will not be quenched night or day; its smoke will rise forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will ever pass through it again. (niv)

Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame. (niv)

Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised. (niv)

So there is hope for your descendants,” declares the Lord.“ Your children will return to their own land. (niv)

But if he remains silent, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, who can see him? Yet he is over individual and nation alike, (niv)

My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; see, it descends in judgment on Edom, the people I have totally destroyed. (niv)

Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength?“ It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.”Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress?“ I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.It was for me the day of vengeance; the year for me to redeem had come.I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm achieved salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me.I trampled the nations in my anger; in my wrath I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground.” (niv)

Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell.“ Tear it down,” they cried,“ tear it down to its foundations!” (niv)

There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord. (niv)
