Though Edom says,“ We have been devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” the LORD of Armies says this:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called a wicked country and the people the LORD has cursed forever.

尽管以东说：“我们虽遭毁坏，但我们要回去，重建废墟之处。”万军之耶和华却如此说：“他们就算重建了，我还要拆毁。人们必称呼以东为‘邪恶的地界’、‘耶和华永远恼怒之民’。”

以東曰、予雖貧乏、傾圮之宅、必復建造、萬有之主耶和華曰、彼雖興版築、必為我所毀、人稱之為惡土、耶和華震怒斯民、恆久不已、

以東人若曰、我雖遭傾毀、我雖遭傾毀或作我雖貧乏傾圮之邑、必復建造、萬有之主如是云、任彼建造、我必毀之、人必稱其土為惡境、稱其民為主所永怒之民、

Edom may say,“ Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.” But this is what the Lord Almighty says:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord.

Edom might say,“ We have been crushed. But we’ll rebuild our cities.” The Lord who rules over all says,“ They might rebuild their cities. But I will destroy them. They will be called the Evil Land. My anger will always remain on them.

If Edom says,“ We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says,“ They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called‘ the wicked country,’ and‘ the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”

Esau’s descendants in Edom may say,“ We have been shattered, but we will rebuild the ruins.” But the Lord of Heaven’s Armies replies,“ They may try to rebuild, but I will demolish them again. Their country will be known as‘ The Land of Wickedness,’ and their people will be called‘ The People with Whom the Lord Is Forever Angry.’

Though Edom says,“ We have been beaten down, but we will return and build up the ruins”; this is what the Lord of armies says:“ They may build, but I will tear down; and people will call them the territory of wickedness, and the people with whom the Lord is indignant forever.”

Even though Edom has said,“ We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.

Whereas Edom saith, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places; thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and men shall call them The border of wickedness, and The people against whom Jehovah hath indignation for ever.

Though Edom says:“ We have been devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of Hosts says this:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called a wicked country and the people the Lord has cursed forever.

Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.

Edom says,“ Though we are devastated, we will once again build the ruined places.” So the LORD who rules over all responds,“ They indeed may build, but I will overthrow. They will be known as the land of evil, the people with whom the LORD is permanently displeased.

Whereas Edom says,“ We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;” Yahweh of Armies says,“ They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them‘ The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”

I will make you a perpetual desolation; your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

I will take my vengeance on Edom through my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom according to my anger and wrath. So they will know my vengeance. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.

All the people— Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria— will know it. They will say with pride and arrogance,“ The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with cut stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will replace them with cedars.”

Unless the LORD builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the LORD watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.

But they will swoop down on the Philistine flank to the west. Together they will plunder the people of the east. They will extend their power over Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be their subjects.

but I hated Esau. I turned his mountains into a wasteland, and gave his inheritance to the desert jackals.”

Cross over to Calneh and see; go from there to great Hamath; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?

Anyone who is not with me is against me, and anyone who does not gather with me scatters.

God is wise and all-powerful. Who has opposed him and come out unharmed?

Whatever he tears down cannot be rebuilt; whoever he imprisons cannot be released.

So rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you resident of the land of Uz! Yet the cup will pass to you as well; you will get drunk and expose yourself.Daughter Zion, your punishment is complete; he will not lengthen your exile. But he will punish your iniquity, Daughter Edom, and will expose your sins.

You will fall by the sword, and I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Come now, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring— what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.Instead, you should say,“ If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

Who is there who speaks and it happens, unless the Lord has ordained it?

It will never go out— day or night. Its smoke will go up forever. It will be desolate, from generation to generation; no one will pass through it forever and ever.

Does an ax exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw magnify itself above the one who saws with it? It would be like a rod waving the ones who lift it! It would be like a staff lifting the one who isn’t wood!Therefore the Lord GOD of Armies will inflict an emaciating disease on the well-fed of Assyria, and he will kindle a burning fire under its glory.

There will be nothing to do except crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.

There is hope for your future— this is the LORD’s declaration— and your children will return to their own territory.

But when God is silent, who can declare him guilty? When he hides his face, who can see him? Yet he watches over both individuals and nations,

When my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens, it will then come down on Edom and on the people I have set apart for destruction.

Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah— this one who is splendid in his apparel, striding in his formidable might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save.Why are your clothes red, and your garments like one who treads a winepress?I trampled the winepress alone, and no one from the nations was with me. I trampled them in my anger and ground them underfoot in my fury; their blood spattered my garments, and all my clothes were stained.For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of my redemption came.I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was amazed that no one assisted; so my arm accomplished victory for me, and my wrath assisted me.I crushed nations in my anger; I made them drunk with my wrath and poured out their blood on the ground.

Remember, LORD, what the Edomites said that day at Jerusalem:“ Destroy it! Destroy it down to its foundations!”

No wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel will prevail against the LORD.
