不可倚賴鄰舍，不可信靠密友；甚至對躺在你懷中的妻子也要守住你的口。因為兒子藐視父親，女兒抵擋母親，媳婦抗拒婆婆，人的仇敵就是自己家裏的人。

連你們的父母、兄弟、親族、朋友也要把你們交給官府；你們中間也將有被他們害死的。你們要為我的名被眾人憎恨。

那時，會有許多人跌倒，也會彼此陷害，彼此憎恨；

兄弟要把兄弟、父親要把兒女置於死地；兒女要起來與父母為敵，害死他們；而且你們要為我的名被眾人憎恨。但堅忍到底的終必得救。」

你們以為我來是要使地上太平嗎？不！我告訴你們，是使人紛爭。從今以後，一家五個人將要紛爭，三個和兩個相爭，兩個和三個相爭：父親和兒子相爭，兒子和父親相爭；母親和女兒相爭，女兒和母親相爭；婆婆和媳婦相爭，媳婦和婆婆相爭。」

若還有人說預言，生他的父母必對他說：『你不得存活，因為你假借耶和華的名說謊話。』生他的父母在他說預言時，要將他刺死。

「你們不要以為我來是帶給地上和平，我來並不是帶來和平，而是刀劍。因為我來是要叫『人與父親對立，女兒與母親對立，媳婦與婆婆對立。人的仇敵就是自己家裏的人。』

亞希多弗對押沙龍說：「請讓我挑選一萬二千人，今夜起身追趕大衛。我必趁他疲乏手軟的時候追上他，使他驚惶。跟隨他的眾百姓必都逃跑，我就只殺王一個人。我必使眾百姓都歸順你，正如眾人歸順你所追殺的人一樣，眾百姓就都平安無事了。」這話在押沙龍和以色列眾長老的眼中都看為好。

大衛又對亞比篩和眾臣僕說：「看哪，我親生的兒子尚且尋索我的性命，何況現在這便雅憫人呢？由他咒罵吧！因為這是耶和華吩咐他的。

我的知心朋友都憎惡我；我平日所愛的人向我翻臉。
