愛惜自己性命的，就喪失性命；那恨惡自己在這世上的性命的，要保全性命到永生。

因為凡要救自己生命的，必喪失生命；凡為我和福音喪失生命的，必救自己的生命。人就是賺得全世界，賠上自己的生命，有甚麼益處呢？

你將要受的苦，你不用怕。看哪！魔鬼要把你們中間幾個人下在監裏，使你們受考驗，你們要遭受苦難十日。你務要至死忠心，我就賜給你那生命的冠冕。

因為凡要救自己生命的，必喪失生命；凡為我喪失生命的，他必救自己的生命。

這就是我所切慕、所盼望的：沒有一事能使我羞愧；反倒凡事坦然無懼，無論是生是死，總要讓基督在我身上照常顯大。因為我活着就是基督，死了就有益處。

至於我，我已經被澆獻，離世的時候到了。那美好的仗我已經打過了，當跑的路我已經跑盡了，該信的道我已經守住了。從此以後，有公義的冠冕為我存留，就是按着公義審判的主到了那日要賜給我的；不但賜給我，也賜給凡愛慕他顯現的人。
