One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully.

And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples.And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples,“ Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

And when they saw it, they all grumbled,“ He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying,“ This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep!The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this:

Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table.Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples( he who was about to betray him), said,“ Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.Jesus said,“ Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial.For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

saying,“ Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things,so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
