Then Levi gave a great banquet in his house for Jesus, and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them.But the Pharisees and their experts in the law complained to his disciples, saying,“ Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Now one Sabbath when Jesus went to dine at the house of a leader of the Pharisees, they were watching him closely.

As Jesus was having a meal in Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with Jesus and his disciples.When the Pharisees saw this they said to his disciples,“ Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

And when the people saw it, they all complained,“ He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

( Now all the people who heard this, even the tax collectors, acknowledged God’s justice, because they had been baptized with John’s baptism.

Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming to hear him.But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say,‘ Look at him, a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”Now one of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went into the Pharisee’s house and took his place at the table.

But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.Think about the circumstances of your call, brothers and sisters. Not many were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were born to a privileged position.But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.God chose what is low and despised in the world, what is regarded as nothing, to set aside what is regarded as something,so that no one can boast in his presence.

How great are your works, O LORD! Your plans are very intricate!The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this.

and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.

Let each of us please his neighbor for his good to build him up.

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels in a circle around the throne, as well as the living creatures and the elders. Their number was ten thousand times ten thousand– thousands times thousands–all of whom were singing in a loud voice:“ Worthy is the lamb who was killed to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and praise!”Then I heard every creature– in heaven, on earth, under the earth, in the sea, and all that is in them– singing:“ To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be praise, honor, glory, and ruling power forever and ever!”And the four living creatures were saying“ Amen,” and the elders threw themselves to the ground and worshiped.

So they prepared a dinner for Jesus there. Martha was serving, and Lazarus was among those present at the table with him.Then Mary took three quarters of a pound of expensive aromatic oil from pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus. She then wiped his feet dry with her hair.( Now the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfumed oil.)But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples( the one who was going to betray him) said,“ Why wasn’t this oil sold for three hundred silver coins and the money given to the poor?”( Now Judas said this not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief. As keeper of the money box, he used to steal what was put into it.)So Jesus said,“ Leave her alone. She has kept it for the day of my burial.For you will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me!”

saying,“ Amen! Praise and glory, and wisdom and thanksgiving, and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”

Wisdom is directly in front of the discerning person, but the eyes of a fool run to the ends of the earth.

To me– less than the least of all the saints– this grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christand to enlighten everyone about God’s secret plan– a secret that has been hidden for ages in God who has created all things.The purpose of this enlightenment is that through the church the multifaceted wisdom of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms.
