不過他總要用信心求，一點也不疑惑；因為疑惑的人就像海中的大浪被風吹蕩翻騰。

使我們不再做孩童、像波浪漂來漂去，被各樣教義的風帶前帶後，就是人用欺騙手段、用狡猾施展謬妄之詭計造出來的。

那個人是點𤏲而發亮的燈，你們情願暫時以他的光為歡樂。

有聲音在野地裏呼喊着說：要豫備主的道路，修直他的路徑來。』照這話，施洗的約翰就來了，在野地裏宣傳悔改以得罪赦的洗禮。猶太全地區，和耶路撒冷的眾人，連續地出去到他那裏，承認他們的罪，在約但河裏受他的洗。

約翰的使者走了，耶穌就對羣眾講論約翰說：『你們出去、到野地裏，要看甚麼呢？被風搖動的蘆葦麼？你們出去，到底要看甚麼呢？披着細軟衣裳的人麼？看哪，那穿華麗服裝、宴樂度日的、是在王宮裏。你們出去，到底是要看甚麼呢？神言人麼？是的、我告訴你們；還是比神言人大多的呢！這個人就是經上所記到的、說：「看哪，我差遣我的使者在你前面；他要在你前面準備你的道路。」我告訴你們，婦人所生的、沒有一個比約翰大的；然而在上帝國裏最小的、比他還大！』（眾民和收稅人因受過約翰的洗、聽見了這話、就承認上帝為義。但法利賽人和律法師因沒受過約翰的洗、竟自廢棄了上帝的計畫了）。

所以你們要謹慎怎樣地聽；因為凡有的，還要給他；凡沒有的，連他所以為有的，也要從他手裏被奪去。』

那時耶路撒冷和全猶太、跟約但河全周圍地區的人、連續地出去到約翰那裏，

約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是由於天呢？還是由於人呢？』他們就彼此議論說：『我們若說「由於天」呢，他就會對我們說：「那你們為甚麼不信他？」

約翰就來到約但河全周圍地區，宣傳悔改以得罪赦的洗禮。正如神言人以賽亞話語書上所記的、說：『有聲音在野地裏呼喊着說：「要豫備主的道路，造直他的路徑來；一切山谷都要填滿，大山小山都要削低；彎曲的要改直，崎嶇的要改為平路；血肉之人都必看見上帝的拯救。」』所以約翰對那出來要受他洗的羣眾說：『毒蛇的種啊，誰指示你們逃避將來上帝的義怒呢？

耶穌轉過身來，見他們跟着，就對他們說：『你們尋求甚麼？』他們對耶穌說：『拉比，你住哪裏？』（『拉比』翻譯出來是說「老師」。）

那麼我既有了這個意思，難道還有輕浮的態度麼？還是我所定的意是按着肉體而定意，以致在我也有忽是忽非麼？我指着可信可靠的上帝來說：我們對你們說的話並沒有是而又非的。

當那些日子、施洗者約翰出來，在猶太的野地宣傳說，『你們要悔改；因為天國近了。』這人就是那藉神言人以賽亞所說的，說：『有聲音在野地裏呼喊着說：「要豫備主的道路，造直他的路徑來。」』

但是沸騰橫溢如水，你必不能得超越，因為你上了你父親的床，就給沾污了：我的鋪蓋你上去了。
