“ When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.

「有個汙靈從一個人身上出來以後，走遍無水之地，尋找安歇的地方，卻找不到，就說：『我要回到我離開的那屋裡去。』於是它回去，發現那裡已被打掃乾淨，擺設整齊，就去帶了另外七個比自己更邪惡的靈，進去住在那裡。那個人最後的情況就比先前更壞了。」

他一看見耶穌，就喊叫起來，俯伏在耶穌面前，大聲說：「至高神的兒子耶穌，我與你有什麼關係？求求你不要折磨我！」這是因為耶穌吩咐汙靈從那個人身上出來。原來汙靈曾多次抓住那個人，雖然他被鐵鏈和腳鐐捆鎖，被看守著，可是他掙斷鎖鏈，被鬼魔驅逐到曠野去。耶穌問他：「你叫什麼名字？」他回答說：「軍團。」因為有許多鬼魔進到他裡面。那些鬼魔央求耶穌不要命令它們進無底坑去。當時，那裡有一大群豬正在山上吃食。那些鬼魔就央求耶穌准許它們進入那些豬裡，耶穌准許了它們。

我要在光禿的高地開江河，在山谷開泉源；我要使曠野成為水池，使乾旱之地成為水源。

忽然，他們喊叫說：「神的兒子啊，我們與你有什麼關係？時候來到之前，你就來這裡折磨我們嗎？」

大聲喊叫說：「至高神的兒子耶穌，我與你有什麼關係？我藉著神懇求你，不要折磨我！」這是因為耶穌對他說：「你出來，汙靈！離開這個人！」耶穌問他：「你叫什麼名字？」他回答說：「我名叫『軍團』，因為我們眾多。」他一再央求耶穌不要把它們趕出那個地方。當時，那裡有一大群豬正在附近的山上吃食。那些汙靈就央求耶穌，說：「求你打發我們到豬群裡，好讓我們進入豬裡面去吧！」耶穌准許了它們，汙靈就出來，進入豬裡面。那群豬約有兩千頭，牠們從山崖衝到湖裡，在湖裡淹死了。

那時，瘸腿的必如鹿跳躍，啞巴的舌頭也必歡唱。在曠野將有水湧出，在荒漠將有溪湧流。灼熱的沙地將成為池塘，乾涸之地將成為水泉；豺狗躺臥的巢，鴕鳥的窩都將變為蘆葦和蒲草。

神哪，你是我的神，我切切尋求你！在乾旱、疲乏、無水之地，我的靈魂渴想你，我的肉體渴盼你。

你們要謹慎，要警醒。你們的仇敵魔鬼就像咆哮的獅子走來走去，尋找可吞吃的人。

連西門自己也信了。他受洗以後，常常跟著腓利，看見所行出來的神蹟和大能，就十分驚訝。
