Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

Herod had arrested John. He had tied him up and put him in prison because of Herodias. She was the wife of Herod’s brother Philip.

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias( the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).

But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother’s wife, and all the other evil things he had done,Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison. (niv)

So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, (niv)

When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl,“ Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” (niv)

When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples (niv)

Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. (niv)

Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized.( This was before John was put in prison.) (niv)
