A man in the crowd answered,“ Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech.Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” (niv)

The demons begged Jesus,“ If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”He said to them,“ Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. (niv)

For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. (niv)

You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”The Lord said to Satan,“ Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house,a messenger came to Job and said,“ The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said,“ The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said,“ The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said,“ Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house,when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” (niv)

A man in the crowd called out,“ Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him.I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”“ You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied,“ how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father. (niv)
