that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with meal- offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Jehovah.And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.

Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever, The thoughts of his heart to all generations.

He frustrateth the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; And the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple unto Jehovah, the God of Israel;then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers’ houses, and said unto them, Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as ye do; and we sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar- haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.

And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

They speak falsehood every one with his neighbor: With flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips, The tongue that speaketh great things;

Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he: take him.And straightway he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Rabbi; and kissed him.

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:

And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu will serve him much.Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshippers, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtlety, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He that taketh the wise in their craftiness:and again, The Lord knoweth the reasonings of the wise, that they are vain.

There is no wisdom nor understanding Nor counsel against Jehovah.

Go, I pray you, make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there; for it is told me that he dealeth very subtly.See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking- places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me of a certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.
