於是，他們從橄欖山回到耶路撒冷。橄欖山距離耶路撒冷不遠，約是安息日允許走的路程。

耶穌每天在聖殿裡講道，晚上則到城外的橄欖山上過夜。

到那天，祂的腳必踏在耶路撒冷東面的橄欖山上，這山必從東至西分成兩半，一半向北移，一半向南移，中間形成極大的山谷。

耶穌離開，像往常一樣前往橄欖山，門徒也跟去了。

耶穌和門徒將近耶路撒冷，快到橄欖山附近的伯法其和伯大尼兩個村莊時，祂派了兩個門徒，對他們說：「你們去前面的村莊，一進村就會看見一頭從來沒有人騎過的驢駒拴在那裡，你們把牠解開牽來。若有人問你們為什麼這樣做，就說，『主要用牠，很快會把牠送回來。』」他們進了村子，果然看見有一頭驢駒拴在街道旁一戶人家的門外，就上前解開牠。旁邊站著的幾個人就問他們：「你們為什麼要解開這頭驢駒？」門徒依照耶穌的吩咐回答，那些人就讓他們牽走了。他們把驢駒牽到耶穌面前，將自己的外衣搭在驢背上，耶穌就騎了上去。很多人把衣服鋪在路上，有人將田間的樹枝砍下來鋪在路上。大家前呼後擁，高聲歡呼：「和散那！奉主名來的當受稱頌！那將要來臨的我祖大衛的國度當受稱頌！和散那歸於至高之處的上帝！」

耶穌說完這個比喻，就走在眾人前面上耶路撒冷去。快到橄欖山附近的伯法其和伯大尼時，耶穌派了兩個門徒，說：「你們去前面的村莊，進村的時候，必看見一頭從來沒有人騎過的驢駒拴在那裡，你們把牠解開牽來。若有人問你們為什麼把牠解開，就說，『主要用牠。』」兩個門徒出去後，所遇見的情形正如耶穌所說的。當他們解開驢駒時，主人果然問他們：「你們為什麼解開驢駒？」他們說：「主要用牠。」他們牽著驢駒回去見耶穌，又把自己的外衣搭在驢背上，扶耶穌上驢。耶穌騎著驢前行，眾人用外衣為祂鋪路。祂正走下橄欖山，將近耶路撒冷的時候，眾門徒因為以往所見的神蹟奇事，就歡騰起來，高聲讚美上帝：「奉主名來的王當受稱頌！天上有平安，至高處有榮耀！」

他們唱完詩歌，就出門去了橄欖山。
