“ At midnight the cry rang out:‘ Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“ In the middle of the night there was a shout:‘ Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’

But at midnight there finally was a shout:‘ Behold, the groom! Come out to meet him.’

“ And at midnight a cry was heard:‘ Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’

But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him.

“ In the middle of the night there was a shout:‘ Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

But at midnight there was a shout,‘ Look, the bridegroom is here! Come out to meet him.’

But at midnight there was a cry,‘ Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!’

“ Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.“ But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes.

“ Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world— from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

In that day the people will proclaim,“ This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the Lord, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”

Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son,and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.

“ But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne.

before the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with fairness.

The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant in pieces and banish him with the unfaithful.

Enoch, who lived in the seventh generation after Adam, prophesied about these people. He said,“ Listen! The Lord is coming with countless thousands of his holy onesto execute judgment on the people of the world. He will convict every person of all the ungodly things they have done and for all the insults that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

“ Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!“ The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return— in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”

before the Lord, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth.

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him.He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people.“ Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.”Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude

But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.

And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels,in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people— praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.

He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.“ Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into.You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”

Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.And the angel said to me,“ Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added,“ These are true words that come from God.”

Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you.For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.When people are saying,“ Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.

“ Therefore, I will bring upon you all the disasters I have announced. Prepare to meet your God in judgment, you people of Israel!”
