But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law— settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.”So he drove them off.Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever. While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message:“ Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.” (niv)

They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good. (niv)

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. (niv)

Then they cried out to the Lord,“ Please, Lord, do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, Lord, have done as you pleased.” (niv)

For the third time he spoke to them:“ Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.” (niv)

including the shedding of innocent blood. For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to forgive. (niv)

Such a high priest truly meets our need— one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. (niv)

Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing.” (niv)

Samuel said,“ Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy?The Lord has done what he predicted through me. The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hands and given it to one of your neighbors— to David.Because you did not obey the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you today.The Lord will deliver both Israel and you into the hands of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The Lord will also give the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.”Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, filled with fear because of Samuel’s words. His strength was gone, for he had eaten nothing all that day and all that night. (niv)
