那天正是逾越節的預備日，大約在中午十二時，彼拉多對猶太人說：「看啊！你們的王。」

那天是猶太人的預備日，也就是安息日的前一天。傍晚，

因為那天是猶太人的預備日，這座新墳墓也在附近，他們就把耶穌安放在那裡。

列國為何咆哮？萬民為何枉費心機？世上的君王一同行動，官長聚集商議，要抵擋耶和華和祂所膏立的王。他們說：「讓我們掙斷他們的鎖鏈，脫去他們的捆索！」坐在天上寶座上的主必笑他們，祂必嘲笑他們。那時，祂必怒斥他們，使他們充滿恐懼。祂說：「在我的錫安聖山上，我已立了我的君王。」

當天是預備日，安息日快到了。和耶穌一起從加利利來的婦女跟在約瑟後面，看到了耶穌的墳墓，並且看到祂的遺體被安放好之後，便回家去預備香料和膏油。安息日到了，她們按律法的規定休息了一天。

除酵節的第一天，門徒來問耶穌說：「我們該在什麼地方為你準備逾越節的晚餐呢？」

「果然如此，希律和本丟·彼拉多、外族人和以色列聚集在這城裡，要對抗你膏立的聖子耶穌，然而他們所做的只不過是你憑自己的能力和旨意所預定的。

因為那天是預備日，第二天的安息日是個大日子，為了避免在安息日有屍首留在十字架上，猶太人便求彼拉多叫人打斷他們的腿，好把他們搬走。

到了清晨，所有的祭司長和民間的長老商定要處死耶穌。他們把祂綁起來，押送到總督彼拉多那裡。
