那天是逾越節的預備日，大約在中午十二點，彼拉多對猶太人說：「看，你們的王！」

因為那天是預備日，也就是安息日的前一天，所以到了傍晚，

因為那天是猶太人的預備日，那墓穴又在附近，他們就把耶穌安放在那裡。

為什麼萬國悖逆，萬民圖謀虛妄的事呢？地上的君王們站出來，首領們一同商定，敵對耶和華和他的受膏者，說：「讓我們掙斷他們的捆綁，把他們的繩索從我們身上甩掉！」坐在天上的那一位會譏笑，主會嘲笑他們。那時他在怒氣中向他們說話，在烈怒中使他們惶恐，說：「我在錫安我的聖山上，膏立了我的王。」

那天是預備日，安息日快要到了。那些從加利利陪耶穌一起來的婦女跟在後面。她們看到了那墓穴，也看到了耶穌的遺體怎樣被安放，就回去預備香料和香液。不過在安息日，她們還是按照誡命休息了。

除酵節的第一日，門徒們前來問耶穌：「你要我們到哪裡去預備，好讓你吃逾越節的晚餐呢？」

「事實上，希律和本丟彼拉多，與外邦人和以色列子民果然在這城裡一同聚集，對付你所膏立的聖僕耶穌，做成了你手和你計劃所預定要成就的一切事。

因為那天是預備日，又因為那個安息日是個大節日，那些猶太人為了不讓屍體在安息日留在十字架上，就向彼拉多請求，好把他們的腿打斷，把屍體拿走。

到了清晨，所有的祭司長和民間的長老商議對付耶穌，為要處死他。他們把耶穌捆起來帶走，交給總督彼拉多。
