It was the day of preparation and the Sabbath was beginning.The women who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.Then they returned and prepared aromatic spices and perfumes. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Now on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and said,“ Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

“ For indeed both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,to do as much as your power and your plan had decided beforehand would happen.

Then, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies should not stay on the crosses on the Sabbath( for that Sabbath was an especially important one), the Jewish leaders asked Pilate to have the victims’ legs broken and the bodies taken down.

When it was early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to execute him.They tied him up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate the governor.
