It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Now on the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying to him,“ Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

“ For truly, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed,to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.

Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn’t remain on the cross on the Sabbath( for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
