Then the tempter approached Him and said,“ If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

試者進曰、爾若上帝子、可命此石為餅、

試者就之曰、爾若上帝子、此石可令為餅、

試者就之曰、爾若天主之子、可令此石變餅、

誘者乃進而謂之曰：『爾苟為天主子、盍命斯石變餅。』

The tempter came to him and said,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

The tempter came to him. He said,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

And the tempter came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”

During that time the devil came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”

Then the tempter approached him and said,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

And the tempter came and said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

Now when the tempter came to Him, he said,“ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

The tempter came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”

Contemptible people among them had a strong craving for other food. The Israelites cried again and said,“ Who will feed us meat?We remember the free fish we ate in Egypt, along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.But now our appetite is gone; there’s nothing to look at but this manna!”

For this reason, when I could no longer stand it, I also sent him to find out about your faith, fearing that the tempter had tempted you and that our labor might be for nothing.

Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman,“ Did God really say,‘ You can’t eat from any tree in the garden’?”The woman said to the serpent,“ We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden.But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said,‘ You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.’”“ No! You will not die,” the serpent said to the woman.“ In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

“ Skin for skin!” Satan answered the Lord.“ A man will give up everything he owns in exchange for his life.But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse You to Your face.”“ Very well,” the Lord told Satan,“ he is in your power; only spare his life.”So Satan left the Lord’s presence and infected Job with terrible boils from the sole of his foot to the top of his head.

“ Simon, Simon, look out! Satan has asked to sift you like wheat.But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the Devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will have affliction for 10 days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

So the great dragon was thrown out— the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the one who deceives the whole world. He was thrown to earth, and his angels with him.Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Messiah have now come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown out: the one who accuses them before our God day and night.They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives in the face of death.

But they continued to sin against Him, rebelling in the desert against the Most High.They deliberately tested God, demanding the food they craved.They spoke against God, saying,“ Is God able to provide food in the wilderness?Look! He struck the rock and water gushed out; torrents overflowed. But can He also provide bread or furnish meat for His people?”

Satan answered the Lord,“ Does Job fear God for nothing?Haven’t You placed a hedge around him, his household, and everything he owns? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.But stretch out Your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will surely curse You to Your face.”“ Very well,” the Lord told Satan,“ everything he owns is in your power. However, you must not lay a hand on Job himself.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence.

The Israelites said to them,“ If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted. Instead, you brought us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of hunger!”

Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field exhausted.He said to Jacob,“ Let me eat some of that red stuff, because I’m exhausted.” That is why he was also named Edom.Jacob replied,“ First sell me your birthright.”“ Look,” said Esau,“ I’m about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?”Jacob said,“ Swear to me first.” So he swore to Jacob and sold his birthright to him.Then Jacob gave bread and lentil stew to Esau; he ate, drank, got up, and went away. So Esau despised his birthright.

Then those in the boat worshiped Him and said,“ Truly You are the Son of God!”

And make sure that there isn’t any immoral or irreverent person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for one meal.

So he took Him to Jerusalem, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.

Immediately he began proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues:“ He is the Son of God.”

And there came a voice from heaven: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him!

The Devil said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
