Romans 10:2-3
I can tell you for certain that they really want to serve God. But how they are trying to do it is not based on knowledge.They didn’t know that God’s power makes people right with himself. They tried to get right with God in their own way. They didn’t do it in God’s way.

Philippians 3:9
I want to be joined to him. Being right with God does not come from my obeying the law. It comes because I believe in Christ. It comes from God because of faith.

Romans 9:30-32
What should we say then? Gentiles did not look for a way to be right with God. But they found it by having faith.The people of Israel tried to obey the law to make themselves right with God. But they didn’t reach their goal of being right with God.Why not? Because they tried to do it without faith. They tried to be right with God by what they did. They tripped over the stone that causes people to trip and fall.

Matthew 23:2-5

You pretenders! You are like tombs that are painted white. They look beautiful on the outside. But on the inside they are full of the bones of the dead. They are also full of other things that are not pure and‘ clean.’It is the same with you. On the outside you seem to be doing what is right. But on the inside you are full of what is wrong. You pretend to be what you are not.
