After Jesus left the synagogue with James and John, they went to Simon and Andrew’s home.Now Simon’s mother in law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away.So he went to her bedside, took her by the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal for them.That evening after sunset, many sick and demon possessed people were brought to Jesus.The whole town gathered at the door to watch.So Jesus healed many people who were sick with various diseases, and he cast out many demons. But because the demons knew who he was, he did not allow them to speak.

After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother in law very sick with a high fever.“ Please heal her,” everyone begged.Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them.As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one.Many were possessed by demons; and the demons came out at his command, shouting,“ You are the Son of God!” But because they knew he was the Messiah, he rebuked them and refused to let them speak.

Don’t we have the right to bring a believing wife with us as the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers do, and as Peter does?

“ Yes, he does,” Peter replied. Then he went into the house. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him,“ What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the people they have conquered?”

They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.

But Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

So a church leader must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.

Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.
