When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,

And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,

When Jesus came to the leader’s house, He saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly.

And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

When Jesus entered the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the disorderly crowd,

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder,

耶利米為約西亞作哀歌，所有歌唱的男女也唱哀歌，追悼約西亞，直到今日。他們在以色列中以此為定例；看哪，這些哀歌寫在《哀歌書》上。

耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從會堂主管的家裏來，說：「你的女兒死了，何必還勞駕老師呢？」耶穌不理會他們所說的話，就對會堂主管說：「不要怕，只要信！」於是他帶着彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰同去，不許別人跟着他。他們來到會堂主管的家裏，耶穌看到一片吵鬧，並有人大聲哭泣哀號，就進到裏面，對他們說：「為甚麼大吵大哭呢？孩子不是死了，是睡着了。」他們就嘲笑耶穌。耶穌把他們都趕出去，帶着孩子的父母和跟隨的人進了孩子所在的地方，

耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從會堂主管的家裏來，說：「你的女兒死了，不要勞駕老師了。」耶穌聽見就對他說：「不要怕，只要信！她必得痊癒。」耶穌到了他的家，除了彼得、約翰、雅各，和女兒的父母，不許別人同他進去。

耶穌說這些話的時候，有一個會堂主管來，向他下跪，說：「我女兒剛死了，求你去按手在她身上，她就會活過來。」耶穌就起來跟他去；門徒也跟了去。

這正像孩童坐在街市上，彼此喊叫：『我們為你們吹笛，你們不跳舞；我們唱哀歌，你們不啼哭。』

『我們為你們吹笛，你們不跳舞；我們唱哀歌，你們不捶胸。』

彼得就起身和他們同去。他到了，就有人領他上樓。眾寡婦都站在彼得旁邊哭，拿多加與她們同在時所做的內衣外衣給他看。

萬軍之耶和華如此說：「你們要考慮，將唱哀歌的婦女召來，差人召善哭的婦女前來，叫她們速速為我們舉哀，使我們淚眼汪汪，使我們的眼皮湧出淚水。因為有哀聲從錫安傳來：『我們竟然敗落！我們何等慚愧！我們撇下土地，人拆毀了我們的房屋。』」婦女們哪，當聽耶和華的話，領受他口中的言語；當教導你們的女兒舉哀，各人教導女伴唱哀歌。
