亚述的将军听说亚述王已经离开拉吉，便回去见王，发现王在攻打立拿。

可是有一件事我要责备你，就是你容许那自称是先知的妇人耶洗别教导我的众奴仆，引诱他们淫乱、吃祭过偶像的食物。

这事以后，耶罗波安没有改邪归正，他任命各种人做丘坛的祭司，不管谁想做祭司，他都封立他们。这罪使耶罗波安家走向没落，最终彻底灭亡。

希西迦王执政第十四年，亚述王西拿基立起兵攻取了犹大所有的坚城。希西迦王差遣使者去拉吉见亚述王说：“我知罪了，求你退兵！我愿意满足你的任何要求。”亚述王向希西迦索要十吨银子和一吨金子。

因为耶罗波安犯罪作孽，使以色列人陷入罪中，耶和华必抛弃以色列。”
