And he will be our peace when the Assyrians invade our land and march through our fortresses. We will raise against them seven shepherds, even eight commanders,

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace,and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. It will overflow all its channels, run over all its banksand sweep on into Judah, swirling over it, passing through it and reaching up to the neck. Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land, Immanuel!”Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered! Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! “ My anger burns against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders; for the Lord Almighty will care for his flock, the people of Judah, and make them like a proud horse in battle. (niv)

From the west, people will fear the name of the Lord, and from the rising of the sun, they will revere his glory. For he will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the Lord drives along. (niv)

Once more a remnant of the kingdom of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.“ Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of Assyria:“ He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. Therefore this is what the Lord, the Lord Almighty, says:“ My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians, who beat you with a rod and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did.Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction.”The Lord Almighty will lash them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the waters, as he did in Egypt.In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat. There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: (niv)
