因為我們的大祭司並不是一位不能同情於我們的種種軟弱的，乃是一位在各方面同樣受過試誘、卻沒有罪的。

摩西在那裏同永恆主在一起、四十晝又四十夜：飯沒有喫，水也沒有喝。他將這約的話、就是十段話、寫在兩塊版上。

你想我不能求我父，而他現在不派十二團多的天使到我面前來麼？

所以他應該在各方面被形成為和弟兄們一樣，好在關於上帝的事上做能憐恤人而可信靠的大祭司，永為人民的罪做除罪祭。因為他自己既受了被試誘之苦，就能援助被試誘的人。

耶穌對他說：『撒但退去！因為有記着說：「要拜主你的上帝，單單事奉他。」』於是魔鬼離開了耶穌；忽有天使上前來，服事着他。

他就躺在羅騰樹下，睡着了；忽有一個天使來拍他、說：『起來喫吧！』他望一望，只見頭旁邊有燒着的石炭烙的餅，又有一罐水，他就喫，就喝，就再躺下。永恆主的使者第二次再來拍他、說：『起來喫吧！因為那路程給你走是太遠的。』他就起來，就喫，就喝，仗着這飲食的力量、就走了四十晝四十夜，直走到上帝的山何烈。

摩西進入雲中上了山；摩西在山上四十晝又四十夜。

大家公認地、大哉、敬虔之事的奧祕！他顯現於肉身裏，他被斷為得勝於靈裏，他現給天使們看見，他被宣傳於外國中，被信奉於遍世界，被接上於榮耀中。

於是我像先前那樣、俯伏在永恆主面前、四十晝又四十夜，飯沒有喫，水也沒有喝；都是因為你們所犯的一切罪，你們行了永恆主所看為壞的事、去惹他發怒。

『因永恆主說要消滅你們，我就俯伏在永恆主面前，俯伏到那四十晝四十夜。

過了四十晝又四十夜，永恆主把那兩塊石版、就是約版、交給了我。
