摩西回答說：「我們男女老幼都要去，還有我們的牛群和羊群，因為我們要去守耶和華的節期，向祂獻祭。」法老聽後，說：「我若讓你們帶走婦女和孩子，最好耶和華能保護你們！你們真是居心叵測。不行！只有男子可以去事奉耶和華，這是你們一直要求的。」法老說完，便下令把他們趕出去。

約翰對耶穌說：「老師，我們看見有人奉你的名趕鬼，就阻止他，因為他不是跟從我們的。」

要招聚所有男女、孩童以及住在你們中間的外族人，讓他們聆聽這律法，學習敬畏你們的上帝耶和華，謹遵律法上的一切話。這樣，他們那些還不知道這律法的孩子便有機會聽到律法，在你們將要佔領的約旦河對岸的土地上，學習終生敬畏你們的上帝耶和華。」
