祂領了一個小孩子來，叫他站在門徒中間，又抱起他，對他們說：

吃過早餐，耶穌對西門·彼得說：「約翰的兒子西門，你比這些人更愛我嗎？」彼得說：「主啊！是的，你知道我愛你。」耶穌對他說：「你要餵養我的小羊。」耶穌第二次問：「約翰的兒子西門，你愛我嗎？」彼得說：「主啊！是的，你知道我愛你。」耶穌說：「你要牧養我的羊。」耶穌第三次問：「約翰的兒子西門，你愛我嗎？」彼得因為耶穌一連三次這樣問他，就難過起來，於是對耶穌說：「主啊！你是無所不知的，你知道我愛你。」耶穌說：「你要餵養我的羊。

耶穌帶著門徒來到伯大尼附近，舉起雙手為他們祝福。正祝福的時候，祂就離開了他們，被接到天上去了。

就把祂抱過來，稱頌上帝說：「主啊，現在你的話已經成就，可以讓你的奴僕安然離世了，因為我已親眼看到你的救恩，就是你為萬民所預備的救恩。這救恩是啟示外族人的光，也是你以色列子民的榮耀。」約瑟和瑪麗亞聽見這番話，感到驚奇。希緬給他們祝福後，就對孩子的母親瑪麗亞說：「看啊，這孩子必使以色列許多人跌倒、許多人興起。祂將成為眾人攻擊的對象，

但以色列卻兩手交叉，把右手放在約瑟次子以法蓮的頭上，左手放在約瑟長子瑪拿西的頭上。他祝福約瑟說：「願我祖先亞伯拉罕和以撒敬拜的上帝，牧養我一生直到今天的上帝，救我脫離一切患難的天使，賜福這兩個孩子。願我和我祖先亞伯拉罕及以撒的名字藉著他們流傳。願他們在地上子孫興旺。」

「無論你們住在城裡還是鄉村，都必蒙福。

祂像牧人一樣牧養自己的羊群，用臂膀把羊羔聚在一起，抱在懷中，溫柔地引導母羊。
