他們吃完了早飯，耶穌對西門‧彼得說：「約翰的兒子西門，你愛我比這些更深嗎？」彼得對他說：「主啊，是的，你知道我愛你。」耶穌說：「你餵養我的小羊。耶穌第二次又對他說：「約翰的兒子西門，你愛我嗎？」彼得對他說：「主啊，是的，你知道我愛你。」耶穌說：「你牧養我的羊。」耶穌第三次對他說：「約翰的兒子西門，你愛我嗎？」彼得因為耶穌第三次對他說「你愛我嗎」，就憂愁，對耶穌說：「主啊，你無所不知，你知道我愛你。」耶穌說：「你餵養我的羊。

耶穌領他們出來，直到伯大尼附近，就舉手給他們祝福。正祝福的時候，他離開他們，被帶到天上去了。

西面就把他抱過來，稱頌上帝說：「主啊，如今可以照你的話，容你的僕人安然去世；因為我的眼睛已經看見你的救恩，就是你在萬民面前所預備的：是啟示外邦人的光，是你民以色列的榮耀。」孩子的父母因論耶穌的這些話就驚訝。西面給他們祝福，又對孩子的母親馬利亞說：「這孩子被立，是要叫以色列中許多人跌倒，許多人興起；又要成為毀謗的對象，

以色列卻伸出右手來，按在次子以法蓮的頭上，又交叉伸出左手來，按在長子瑪拿西的頭上。他就為約瑟祝福說：「願我祖父亞伯拉罕和我父親以撒所事奉的上帝，就是一生牧養我直到今日的上帝，救贖我脫離一切患難的那位使者，賜福給這兩個孩子。願我的名，我祖父亞伯拉罕和我父親以撒的名藉着他們得以流傳。又願他們在全地上多多繁衍。」

你在城裏必蒙福，在田間也必蒙福。

他要像牧人牧養自己的羊羣，用膀臂聚集羔羊，抱在胸懷，慢慢引導那乳養小羊的。
